PDA is OK! Why Affection Belongs in Your Engagement Session
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: PDA. Yep, we’re going there. Public Displays of Affection. And guess what? When it comes to your engagement session, PDA is totally, 100%, beautifully OK.
Engagement sessions are all about capturing your love story—the connection, the giggles, the quiet glances, the “we’re-really-doing-this” kind of joy. It’s a celebration of this unique chapter in your lives, and naturally, that celebration includes affection.
Now before you start worrying about things getting too steamy, let me set the record straight…
No, You Won’t Be Asked to Grope Each Other
I promise this isn’t going to turn into a PG-13 photoshoot your grandma would politely decline to frame. I’m not asking for make-out sessions or anything you’d only be comfortable doing in the privacy of your own home.
What I will ask for is genuine, natural affection. Think:
Holding hands while you walk
Forehead kisses
Wrapping your arms around each other
Cuddling up close
Soft kisses on the cheek (or lips!)
Whispering something silly in your partner’s ear to make them laugh
These sweet, tender moments are what bring your photos to life. They make your session feel like a memory instead of just a pose.
Not Super Into PDA? That’s Totally OK, Too
If the idea of kissing or cuddling in front of the camera makes you a little nervous—you're not alone! It’s completely normal to feel a bit shy about being affectionate in front of someone else, even your photographer.
That’s why I always give you time to warm up during the session. We’ll start with fun prompts, light-hearted moments, and a few easy shots to break the ice. I’ll guide you every step of the way with gentle direction that helps you focus on each other, not the camera.
But if PDA just isn’t your thing, we’ll find other ways to show your connection—laughing together, exchanging playful glances, or simply walking hand-in-hand. Every couple is different, and your session should reflect you.
A Little Practice Doesn’t Hurt
If you’re feeling unsure, take a few moments in the days leading up to your session to get cozy together. Practice giving each other small kisses, snuggling up on the couch, or holding each other just a little longer than usual. It’ll help you feel more confident—and comfortable—on the day of the shoot.
Remember: I’m not looking for “perfect” poses. I’m looking for real connection.
The Magic of Showing Up Just As You Are
At the end of the day, your engagement photos should feel like you. Whether you're super affectionate or more subtle with your love, I’m here to capture the chemistry, the joy, and the heart of your relationship—PDA included or not.
But if you're wondering, “Is it okay to kiss a little in our session?”
My answer is: Yes. Absolutely. Please do. PDA is more than okay—it’s welcome.
So go ahead, lean in for that kiss, wrap your arms around each other, and let the love flow. This is your love story, and I can’t wait to tell it through every little moment—affection and all.
